movies at the padang
it was my first time at an outdoor movie screening with so many other people. i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed myself.
we had planned to reach the padang at 6pm although the movie only started screening at 730pm. we wanted to get a good spot to watch the movie from. lucky we went there early. by the time we reached, many people were already there. we still managed to get quite a good spot, and proceeded to gobble down our dinner which we had bought from burger king. yummy... the flying dutchman and glenn ong were entertaining the crowd with their dialogue and the whole atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable.
the rest of the class 95 deejays made an appearance and we played some games before the movie screening. one of them was actually my primary school classmate. she still looks the same after all these years.
mission impossible 3 and x-men 3: the last stand were fun movies to watch with a huge bunch of people. everything ended by 1130pm and we still managed to catch a train home. really looking forward to the next movie screening by class 95 again.

packed weekend...
11 August:
planned to catch the fireworks. so went to marina with the intention of having dinner before catching the display. what i didn't plan for was having the whole of singapore down at marina as well. so, adjourn to suntec to search for food instead. by the time we were done with our dinner at surf n turf, we only managed to catch the last bit of the fireworks.
12 August:
No cca! went to new flat in the morning to check out the renovation process. then popped down to plaza sing to catch "hard candy". after lunch went down to expo for the national library book sale. met an ex-colleague there. quite a feat considering that there were so many people around. and such events remind me yet again of how ugly some singaporeans can be. after picking up some bargains, we went back to city hall area. this time i was determined to catch the whole firework display. after walking suntec fountain terrace countless number of times, we settled on subway. at 8.10pm, we started to make our way to the waterfront, naively thinking that that should be early enough to ensure we don't meet with the crowd. boy how wrong was i. as early as 8, the steps in front of marina square facing the esplanade was already packed with people as though it were a spectator stand. scary... anyway, we figured it would be better to just find a place to stand where the view was unblocked by buildings/trees and not affected by bright lights. at 9pm, the first burst of firework was greeted approvingly by the ooohs and aaahhs of the people around us. after being treated to a fascinating display of bright lights and loud noises, everything ended at 9.15pm. the walk back to the mrt station was excruciating. it was the most squeezy day i ever had.
13 August:
proceeded to ikea because i heard that there was a sale going on. bad day to go. the whole place was teeming with human beings and one cannot even walk leisurely or spend more time looking at the displays. luckily we did not buy anything at all because i certainly did not envy all those people queueing up at the checkout area. at night went to this place at defu lane for one of those 7th month dinners. it came complete with the getai so throughout the dinner, we were serenaded by characters of all shapes, sizes, ages and sexual orientation. it was really quite an eye-opener.
and that, is the end of my exciting weekend.

there was relative calm and quiet...
compared to yesterday due to the absence of a few students. of course, one can always count on some of those in class to keep the class active and entertained.

first official lesson...
when i walked into the class, the students carried on with their own business and did not appear to know that they have to greet the teacher. some were chronic sleepers (much worse than some of my ex-students) while others did not know how to talk; they shout. you have girls going around the class harassing other boys (i.e. catching them unaware and kissing them on the cheek and finding it very funny to see them blush). almost lost my voice trying to make myself heard over all the noise. but then, there are also those nice students who are very cooperative and do what is asked of them. sigh...
i sure miss my kids...
